Man United have announced their full squad for the 2022 pre-season tour.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United squad is now starting to take shape, albeit slowly but surely.
The Old Trafford club jets off to Bangkok for the first leg of their pre-season tour this afternoon. No doubt we’ll have photos to follow in the not-too-distant future.
Before then, the club have released a 31-man list of players who’ll be heading over to Australasia to try and impress the new boss. The first game comes against Liverpool next Tuesday – which will be a stern test for this new-look Reds squad.
As expected, Cristiano Ronaldo is the big absentee, as he remains unavailable due to personal reasons. Aside from that, the only other man missing is Andreas Pereira. He has been granted some extra time off due to Flamengo commitments. Though we also expect a permanent transfer away for the Brazilian could be close.
In terms of those who are travelling, a huge 13 are directly from the United academy, with this squad jam-packed with young talent. New signing Tyrell Malacia is also aboard the plane.
Check out the full squad here:
De Gea, Heaton, Bishop, Kovar, Bailly, Dalot, Laird, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia, Shaw, Telles, Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Amad, Fernandes, Fred, Garner, Hannibal, Iqbal, McTominay, Pellistri, Savage, Van de Beek, Chong, Elanga, Garnacho, Martial, Sancho, Rashford.
For me, the names that stand out most are the younger lads. It’s great to see Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage in particular. Both of whom must have massively impressed the new gaffer, while Ethan Laird, Alejandro Garnacho and James Garner will also get their big chance.
What’s somewhat concerning to me is the lack of quality up top without the aforementioned Ronaldo. There are loads of young talents travelling, but if United’s number seven does leave, it’s clear at least one signing is required.
Donny van de Beek is another who deserves a mention. No doubt he’s feeling like he’s been given a new lease of life with this ideal managerial appointment for him from a personal point of view.
Now the excitement is really starting to build ahead of a huge pre-season!
