Manchester United continue their FA Cup campaign today – having been made to wait until Thursday to find out who their opponents would be.
In the end, Tranmere Rovers overcame Watford to book their place in the fourth round – while securing a date with the 20-time Premier League Champions in the process.
Make no mistake about it, Tranmere will be feeling confident going into this one, particularly with the pitch in the shape that it’s in. Anyway, the team news has been confirmed and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone surprisingly strong for this one…
Confirmed Man United XI vs Tranmere:
Sergio Romero gets a start in between the sticks. No doubt he’ll be hoping to continue his hot-streak today.
Diogo Dalot makes a rare appearance following injury, allowing Aaron Wan-Bissaka some much-needed rest in the process. Luke Shaw plays over at left-back. Harry Maguire starts at the heart of defence alongside Phil Jones. Victor Lindelof makes up the back line.
Nemanja Matic surprisingly plays. I thought Solskjaer would rest the Serb for this one and possibly offer an opportunity to James Garner. Andreas Pereira starts in the engine room, too.
Jesse Lingard is involved, as are both Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial.
I think the overall strength of this team tells you Ole’s intentions – he wants a good FA Cup run. Perhaps more than that, he wants to ensure his job remains safe…
