The confirmed Man Utd XI vs Man City is now in, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer presented with an opportunity to make a final.
We have to start this one quickly. We’ve certainly been better at home over the last few weeks, though Manchester City presents a completely different test for our Red Devils.
All the talk before this one was about how badly Solskjaer wants it. Does he rest first-teamers and prioritise fitness? Or does he risk injury and burnout while chasing the victory?
Well, we now know the answer. All I’ll say is that it seems as though we’ll be resting our regular faces for the FA Cup game against Watford this weekend.
Anyway, the team has now been confirmed by the official @ManUtd account, with Solskjaer making a couple of changes for this one.
Confirmed Man Utd XI in full:
Dean Henderson is given his first experience of the Manchester derby here and no doubt the Englishman will be a busy man.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka starts at right-back, with Luke Shaw given the nod over on the left-hand side of defence. The fit again Victor Lindelof plays, partnering club captain Harry Maguire. It feels somewhat harsh on Eric Bailly, though the Ivorian needs to rest some time.
Solskjaer has gone for Scott McTominay’s mobility over Nemanja Matic’s experience, with Fred also in the starting line-up here. Bruno Fernandes obviously plays, as does Paul Pogba. The Baby Faced Assassin is certainly keen on winning the midfield battle.
Marcus Rashford is included from the start, as is Anthony Martial. The forward duo is interchangeable so expect them both to drift all over the front line all night.
In terms of bench options, you’ve got game-changers like Mason Greenwood and Donny van de Beek. Unfortunately, there’s no Edinson Cavani who is serving the second of his three-game suspension.
Come on you Reds!
