The first thing to note is that Dean Henderson is recalled to the starting line-up. You get the impression he’s going to be our cup goalkeeper this term – waiting in the wings for a David de Gea mistake.
Diogo Dalot starts. Yes, you read that correctly. He’s been frozen out over the last few months but tonight he gets his opportunity. Brandon Williams start as the left-back. Victor Lindelof gets the nod, with Eric Bailly completing the back four.
Scott McTominay needs minutes so he’ll play here. Brazilian Fred will partner him, as Donny van de Beek is given another opportunity to impress. This midfield is full of energy and work ethic, I’m expecting them to give Brighton a hard time.
Odion Ighalo leads the line at the Amex, with Daniel James and Juan Mata also included in the XI.
I’m surprised to see Jesse Lingard only make the bench here, while Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford are all amongst the subs. It’ll be a good evening’s rest for Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic.
