The confirmed Man Utd XI vs Everton has been named by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the gaffer springing a surprise or two.
The pressure is firmly on the Manchester United manager’s shoulders. After a couple of bad results back-to-back, questions are (rightly) starting to be asked.
It doesn’t get much tougher than Everton away as a get-right game, either. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been on a two-game slump themselves, though they’ll give us a real challenge this lunchtime.
Simply put, lose this and it could be over for Solskjaer at United. Win and the Norwegian at least buys himself some time. It’s a fine line between success and failure, won and lost in small margins in the heat of battle. Today, those players have to go out there and back their man.
Anyway, Solskjaer has picked the line-up that he believes will do just that – and there are a couple of surprises in the way of selection. Let’s get right into it…
Confirmed Man Utd XI vs Everton in full:
David de Gea comes back into the team after enjoying a rest in midweek. No doubt he’ll be a busy man this afternoon.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka plays at right-back, with Luke Shaw getting the nod over on the left-hand side of defence. Captain Harry Maguire starts as per usual, while Victor Lindelof has been passed fit, despite suffering from a bad back in midweek.
Scott McTominay presumably sits at the base of the midfield, alongside his partner-in-crime Fred. Bruno Fernandes has to have a better game here if United are going to scoop all three points.
Marcus Rashford plays off the left-wing, with Juan Mata starting on the right. This one’s left me feeling somewhat puzzled, I have to be honest. Anthony Martial leads the line.
The likes of Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba are on the bench, as is Edinson Cavani. Hopefully, we don’t need to call upon these guys and the starting XI can get the job done.
