The confirmed Man Utd XI vs RB Leipzig has been named by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though there are certainly a few team news surprises…
Manchester United won their European opener away from home against Paris Saint-Germain. Tonight, RB Leipzig will present a different, yet equally challenging test.
The Red Devils are yet to win on the sacred Old Trafford turf this term and they’ll have to be at their brilliant best to break that duck tonight. Make no mistake about it, this will not be an easy three points.
Leipzig actually won their opening game 2-0, so the prize for this duel at the Theatre of Dreams is an early place at the top of the table. Hopefully, we can get the job done.
Changes were always going to be made for this one, with the team news now confirmed by the official @ManUtd Twitter account. There are certainly a few surprises…
Check out the confirmed Man Utd XI vs RB Leipzig in full here:
David de Gea does keep his place in between the sticks, which was pretty much a given due to his brilliant form over the last week.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka starts at right-back and he’ll have a tough job on his hands. Luke Shaw is included in the team, while Alex Telles doesn’t make the squad. We’ll presume he’s injured, but hopefully, it’s not too serious. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are named as the centre-back pairing, which feels a little harsh on Axel Tuanzebe.
Midfield is where it gets interesting. It looks like United are playing a four in a diamond formation. Nemanja Matic will sit at the base, with Fred and Paul Pogba slightly further afield. Atop the diamond is Donny van de Beek, who makes his first Champions League appearance for the club.
Anthony Martial was always going to play here due to his domestic suspension. He’ll partner Mason Greenwood up top, giving Marcus Rashford some much-needed rest.
You look at the quality on that bench and it makes you even more confident. Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and the aforementioned Rashford. Quality galore. Hopefully, they’re not needed though!
