The confirmed Man Utd XI for the Premier League away game vs Southampton is now in, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changing things up here…
A Manchester United victory would see us propel into the top-half of the table for the first time this season. After stringing together three wins on the trot, this feels like the perfect time to press on and show the league what we can do.
Southampton will not make it easy for us, though. They’re an excellent side with a fantastic manager at the helm and United will have to be at their very best to win all three points here.
There was much talk about who’d be unavailable for this one with injuries and a few familiar faces miss out. There’s no Anthony Martial or Paul Pogba in the squad, though Marcus Rashford, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof all seemingly passed late fitness tests.
The team news is now in. First and foremost, it looks like we’re trying some form of midfield diamond with two strikers up front. Honestly, I sometimes prefer we’d keep it familiar and simple with the 4-3-3, but let’s see how this one works out…
Confirmed Man Utd XI vs Southampton in full:
David de Gea starts on what will likely be a busy afternoon for the superstar Spaniard.
Alex Telles makes his third start in the space of a week which is great for his fitness levels. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is included, while the now-customary back two of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof play.
Nemanja Matic sits at the midfield’s base in Scott McTominay’s absence. Fred plays, as does Donny van de Beek, who makes his first league start. Bruno Fernandes will probably be the most forward-thinking midfielder here.
Then we’ll see a front two. Both Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood start as the pairing. Two academy players leading the line for the biggest club in the country. You absolutely love to see it.
