The confirmed MUFC XI for their game vs Aston Villa is now in…
Perhaps Manchester United’s best chance at lining the trophy cabinet this season is in the FA Cup.
The most iconic competition in English football starts for the Red Devils this evening, with pantomime Villain, Steven Gerrard, bringing his Aston Villa side to the Theatre of Dreams.
Assignment-wise, things could have been a whole lot easier for Ralf Rangnick as this will be a match where United will have to be bang at it from first minute. You know for a fact Gerrard is coming to Old Trafford focused on causing the cup upset.
Changes were always going to be made by the boss here, though he has gone pretty strong all things considered. There’s only one notable absentee – Cristiano Ronaldo, who isn’t in the squad.
Check out the confirmed MUFC XI vs Aston Villa in full here:
David de Gea does take his place in between the sticks, with the Spaniard hoping for a quiet evening and a clean sheet here.
Diogo Dalot comes back into the line-up after sitting the last couple out. This feels like another chance for him to cement his place as the first-choice right-back. Luke Shaw does get the nod ahead of Alex Telles over on the left-hand side of defence.
Raphael Varane needs this game in order to keep building his match fitness, with the Frenchman set to partner Victor Lindelof. On paper, this feels like a combination that can work in the long term.
Scott McTominay is reunited with Fred at the heart of our midfield. This duo continue to blow hot and cold but let’s hope they can play well enough to get the job done tonight.
Bruno Fernandes starts as part of the two attacking midfielders, presumably alongside Mason Greenwood, with the pair struggling to adapt to this new system as things stand.
Edinson Cavani does lead the line alongside Marcus Rashford, with the duo looking to cement their place in the XI for the foreseeable future.
