Confirmed MUFC XI vs Aston Villa (Premier League away, 2021/22)

Our confirmed MUFC XI vs Aston Villa certainly contains a surprise or two, with Ralf Rangnick dealing with some injury issues…

Manchester United’s results have been steady under Ralf Rangnick, though the performances have been pretty dire. I understand that it takes time to implement new ideas and tactics, so we have to remain patient.

Against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Monday night, United just weren’t good enough but somehow managed to squeeze past. Play like that again at Villa Park and I’m pretty confident we’ll see a different result. Simply put, we have to play better.

Rangnick’s task hasn’t been made any easier. There’s no Cristiano Ronaldo nor Marcus Rashford in the first-team squad. Presumably, that’s due to injury issues. We covered Ronaldo’s here.

In regards to those that are fit and ready to go, this is still a strong side. There’s a first start under new management for Anthony Elanga, who more than deserves this opportunity.

David de Gea starts in between the sticks, with United weirdly naming two goalies amongst the subs for this one. Presumably due to a lack of numbers in regards to injuries and suspensions.

Diogo Dalot does play at right-back, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another squad absence. Over on the left-hand side, Alex Telles starts in place of Luke Shaw. Victor Lindelof keeps his place in the line-up alongside Raphael Varane.

Nemanja Matic comes into the team in place of the suspended Scott McTominay, while Fred also starts at the heart of our midfield.

Bruno Fernandes is included in the team, presumably in that number ten role. I’ve gone for Mason Greenwood playing off the right, Anthony Elanga starting on the left and Edinson Cavani leading our line.

Come on you Reds!
