Confirmed MUFC XI vs Liverpool (2022 Pre-Season)

The first MUFC XI of the season is now in, as the Red Devils take on Liverpool during Erik ten Hag’s debut game.

As is always the case with a new manager in charge, it’s fun and intriguing to discover what players he has a preference towards utilising on a regular basis.

Erik ten Hag brings a fresh approach, new style and hard-working energy. Some players will flourish with that style, others will wilt under the pressure.

Games don’t come much tougher than against Liverpool, so this gives us all a good chance to see how far we’ve come in just a few short weeks. I must stress, we’re not expecting miracles here, just some early signs of progress.

Anyway, the team news is now in, with Ten Hag naming an extremely strong line-up here. I’m seriously looking forward to watching this one.

David de Gea is the most senior goalkeeper on the books, so it makes sense to give him the nod in this one against the old enemy.

From right to left, the defence is made up of Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw. If this is an early indication of the players Ten Hag has been impressed with, then it’s a good start.

Scott McTominay is deployed in that holding midfield role, with a place in the side for Fred almost a given at this point when you look at the current state of things. Bruno Fernandes starts and captain’s the Reds this afternoon.

Anthony Martial is likely the starting striker here, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford operating on his right and left respectively.

Come on lads, let’s see what you’ve got!
