Manchester United’s first Premier League starting line-up under Jose Mourinho is in – and it’s strong, but there are a few shocks here and there. The self-proclaimed Special One has stuck with the same back five all pre-season, and it’s no surprise to see them carry on again here.
The midfield is where it gets interesting. Obviously, Paul Pogba is suspended so he can’t feature. Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera both get the nod to play, over Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick who’ll obviously be disappointed.
Juan Mata is another shock man who gets a start. That means there is no place for Henrikh Mkhitaryan which is somewhat surprising. There is no Jesse Lingard either, who is seemingly injured. Zlatan Ibrahimovic obviously starts up top.
Check out the starting XI here:
De Gea, Shaw, Blind, Bailly, Valencia, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Rooney, Martial, Ibrahimovic.
Subs: Romero, Rojo, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Memphis, Mkhitaryan, Rashford.
