Manchester United are vying for a place in the quarter-finals in the oldest cup competition in history this afternoon, when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. The game obviously won’t be easy, but you’d fully expect the Red Devils to progress.
The team news has been confirmed by Manchester United’s official Twitter feed, and as expected, Jose Mourinho has decided to ring the changes and give some squad players a chance to impress.
There is a rare start for Ashley Young at left-back, and we’ll also get to see Jesse Lingard given a run out on the wing. Both Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been dropped to the bench, and about time too as they’ve played an awful lot of football recently.
To my surprise, Luke Shaw is another who has been named on the bench when I thought this would’ve been the perfect game for him. Bastian Schweinsteiger is also involved in the squad.
Starting XI
Romero, Young, Smalling, Rojo, Darmian, Carrick (C), Herrera, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Rashford.
Subs: Henderson, Bailly, Shaw, Schweinsteiger, Pogba, Mata, Ibrahimovic.
