Crisis may force Atletico into selling Saul Niguez to man United: report

Back on 21st April, we covered a story from Marca in which it was claimed that Manchester United would have to pay an ‘unthinkable’ price in order to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid.

A week or so later and things may have changed – for the better…

According to AS, translated via Sport Witness, United could benefit from the global crisis which is taking over our lives right now, with Saul possible available for a cut-price fee.

Atletico Madrid, like many other clubs, find themselves in a financial mess. They’re not helped by the fact that they’re currently not close to the Champions League spots – meaning further cuts may have to be made…

Apparently, Saul may be available for half-price, which would bring a fee of £65m (half of £130m release clause) to the table. Surely that’ll interest the Red Devils if they’re genuinely keen on Saul.

The article claims that £65m would be more than enough to fill their coffers with, so whether they like it or not, Atleti may be forced into parting with their star midfielder.

With that sort of fee, don’t be surprised to see many more interested parties come to the fore. After all, players of Saul’s quality are pretty rare. Juventus’ name has been mentioned in the past, while I wouldn’t bet against other Premier League heavy-hitters to get themselves in the mix.

We’ve all seen what Saul can do. Just look at how he dismantled Liverpool over the two-legged Champions League tie. Not many have the creative brain that he has, and he could well be the perfect Paul Pogba replacement…
