Cristiano Ronaldo was named in the BBC Team of the Week after our dramatic 3-2 win against Norwich City.
At this stage in the season, I guess the results are more important than performances. Losses for both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have left the top four door slightly ajar. It’s up to us to smash right through it.
That’s easier said than done given our inconsistencies. Heck, we made the basement-dwelling Norwich City look like world-beaters on Saturday.
Defensively, we’re a mess. Up at the other end, we’ve been hit and miss. Thankfully, we have a certain lad called Cristiano Ronaldo leading our line. He’s always more than capable of coming up big when we need him most.
For his outstanding display, Ronaldo was the sole United star named in the latest BBC Team of the Week (see below).
Ronaldo will be the first to admit he’s had his own struggles this season. However, there have been numerous games where he’s carried us to wins.
That hat-trick over the weekend was just incredible. It’s his sheer desire to go out there and earn his side the three points when they need it the most. It’s not like he had loads and loads of chances, either. Ronnie was just clinical, understanding the situation and willing his teammates over the line.
With six games remaining, I reckon we’d need at least five wins to give ourselves a chance at finishing in the Champions League spots. We’re going to need more superhuman performances from our main man between now and the end of the campaign, that’s for sure.
The crazy thing is, Ronnie is more than capable of doing just that!
