Cristiano Ronaldo has earned his place in the PFA Team of the Year.
Well, it was a forgettable 2021/22 season when all was said and done. Poor results all over the show, disappointing displays every week and a couple of managers who struggled to get any sort of tune out of the squad.
Changes will be made. Several of them hopefully, though before we completely block out this last twelve months from our memory – one man in particular deserves praise.
While it’s true that Cristiano Ronaldo has his own struggles for some stretches of the season, the Portugal star carried us single-handedly at times.
Epic goals, brilliant individual performances, massive moments and plenty of iconic ‘Siu’ celebrations later and the 37-year-old has been named in the PFA Team of the Year.
What I find most incredible about this is that he’s no spring chicken anymore. Ronaldo, as his career winds down, is still able to go toe-to-toe with the best players on the planet. That’s a testament to his attitude, work ethic and god-given ability.
I’ll never forget the day I found out Ronaldo was coming home. We all spent years wishfully thinking that Ronnie would come back to Old Trafford. Then, when all hope was lost, the spectacular happened.
Although this year has been pretty dreadful, seeing him back in our iconic number seven jersey has certainly given us all a boost. Now, I hope that Ronaldo can continue to play at this level next season under Erik ten Hag. Who knows, if he gets a little help from those around him, we may actually have a chance at winning a trophy in 2022/23?
