Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a heartfelt message to the fans after winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Award.
Manchester United struggled mightily as a team in 2021/22. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick couldn’t get the right tune out of this squad.
The disappointment was compounded when our players downed tools way earlier than they should have. I guess they made their feelings clear about the man who was in the dugout. Let’s hope Erik ten Hag doesn’t follow a similar fate.
For large portions of the season, one man carried us on his back at times; Cristiano Ronaldo.
Bringing the GOAT back to the Theatre of Dreams is still surreal, with Ronaldo single-handedly delivering the goods, particularly at the end of the campaign.
It’s no surprise then, to learn that Ronaldo was named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in his first year after returning. He truly is one of a kind.
Anyway, shortly after being bestowed with the honour, Ronaldo took to Instagram to send an emotional message to the fans.
After being voted the winner of this award by the supporters, it’s nice to see Ronnie send out a little message that has absolutely come from the heart.
It also gives me the impression that Ronaldo isn’t planning on going anywhere this summer, which is a huge boost for Ten Hag. The Dutchman has a focal point he can build his team around, with Ronaldo going to guarantee goals galore in any system.
I just find it remarkable that Ronaldo is still producing the goods at this insanely high level, aged 37. It’s crazy how well he’s looked after his body over the years. He’s now reaping those rewards.
It’s up to United to find Ronaldo some solid teammates who can help propel this club back to where it belongs. I still have faith in large portions of that dressing room, though a trophy next year certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
