Cristiano Ronaldo ‘wishes to be relinquished’ from his Man United contract

Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Man United of his desire to leave the club this summer.

Manchester United have actually performed pretty well in pre-season, with Erik ten Hag’s methods already on full display.

It’ll take time for the style to be fully implemented and working to 100% effectiveness, though I’ve personally been left impressed. Anthony Martial has led from the front, looking like a rejuvenated player.

The question surrounding the Frenchman was largely based about where he’d stand when Cristiano Ronaldo returns. Well, that may not be happening…

Simon Jones has shared his latest information in the Daily Mail and it makes for pretty grim reading for United fans.

Apparently, Ronaldo returned to Carrington on Tuesday, along with his agent Jorge Mendes. They met with officials, with the United star telling the club he ‘wishes to be relinquished’ from his contract.

Ronaldo ‘wants to join’ a Champions League side, though United have countered that debate, claiming they have no desire to sell the 37-year-old. No club has enquired about the Portugal star as of yet, either.

Talks have failed to convince Ronaldo to remain at Old Trafford, though it’s reiterated he will carry on working in a professional manner as we edge towards the start of the season.

Ronaldo only returned to Manchester on Tuesday, undergoing medical tests before watching his teammates play in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham on Wednesday.

The attacker is now working in the gym, though he’s yet to be fully immersed in Ten Hag’s system. Instead, he’ll be integrated gradually.

Quite frankly, the whole situation is just a mess. Ronaldo should have made his feelings known earlier, while the club are well within their rights to make him see out his contract. However, keeping an unhappy player on the books never feels like a wise idea.

Personally, if I were United, I’d be scouring the market hard for potential signings. If there’s anyone out there who Ten Hag likes, go get him and let Ronaldo go.
