Manchester United have seemingly ended all hope in luring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, according to the Daily Mail. United representatives claim that they fear Ronaldo is ‘too old’ and ‘too expensive’. Ronaldo’s transfer fee is thought to be in the region of £60million, and he’s after £20million a year in wages.
Worked out weekly, that equates to almost £400,000-a-week, which is absolutely suicidal for someone who’ll be thirty when next summer comes around. Imagine if United paid that absurd money on a long-term contract, only for his knee to blow out after just a few games and his career would be effectively over.
Personally, I’d love to see that money put aside for two world class centre-backs such as Mats Hummels and someone else of equal talent. We have an abundance of attacking talent and Cristiano Ronaldo coming back into the fold would only complicate matters.
It looks as though the last time we’ll see Ronaldo at Old Trafford could well be the upcoming international friendly between Portugal and Argentina…
