Yesterday, we covered a story from the Evening Standard which claimed that Manchester United had opened the bidding at £25million to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The report added that Crystal Palace would reject that offer as they were holding out for around £50million.
Less than 24 hours later, the Evening Standard has changed their tune somewhat. Today, they’re writing that Palace will now ask for ‘more than £50million’, with the Eagles ready to replicate the stance they’re taking on Wilfried Zaha’s potential departure from Selhurst Park.
Palace are ready to put a huge price-tag on both Wan-Bissaka and Zaha in order to deter potential interest in their two key men this summer – which is a move that makes sense from their point of view.
With three years left on Wan-Bissaka’s deal, the London club feel they have all the power and they will not be strong-armed into parting with a prized asset.
Honestly, I don’t think this changes much. United will only offer what they value Wan-Bissaka at. Palace can ask for whatever they want, and if they want to price themselves out of a move then that’s entirely up to them as he is their player.
If they feel keeping Wan-Bissaka for an extra year or two is worth turning down £50million for then fair play to them. It’ll be intriguing to see what happens in regards to both the right-back and Zaha this summer, though.
I’d imagine only one will be on the move, so if United want to sign Wan-Bissaka that badly, they’ll have to act quickly.
