Daley Blind wanted by Manchester United

Daley Blind is expected to leave the Eredivisie this summer, and according to the Daily Mail, Manchester United and Barcelona are the early favourites for his signature. The 24-year old had an excellent season with Ajax, and followed that up with a superb World Cup which led to a Dutch third place finish.

Blind’s versatility is one of the key reasons as to why so many top teams are interested in luring him to their respective club. His preferred position is left-back, but he can also fill-in at centre-half, as well as central midfield. With United’s alarming lack of depth in all the three positions mentioned, Daley Blind would be the ideal candidate.

He is also someone who Louis van Gaal knows very well as they have worked together at international level. He’d be able to slot right into the side, and the new Manchester United manager will know all of his strengths and weaknesses.

The fee being touted is around £17.4million, which is fairly cheap in today’s market – especially for someone who can play three different positions at a high level.

  1. He will be a very good signing for Manchester United as he can play 3 different positions and the fee is very cheap. So i guess they should buy blind

    • Just make sure Daley Blind doesn’t hear that – While I love O’Shea as an old club servant, let’s not pretend his career at United was the sort of career players dream of having – He was a utility bit-part player who got moved around and was never really allowed to claim a position in the team.

Blind won’t want to come for that.

  2. United need to not be arrogant on this target. Daley Blind is considered by many to be the best player in the Erdevisie, and he’s also being tracked by Barcelona. It’s not like he’s some unknown chump who nobody else wants.

This is a top quality player who deserves to be a starting player wherever he goes – Expecting him to be high-class backup to Shaw and whoever we establish as our DM is just a bit insulting, and frankly, wouldn’t be very appealing.

Unless Van Gaal has a working plan as to how he’ll ensure Blind is actually going to play regularly, United should focus on other targets they genuinely need. Would love to see him at United, but not if it’s going to waste his career in his prime.
