Man United could look to make a move to sign Marc Guehi, if Dan Ashworth is appointed in time for the summer transfer window.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know all about Manchester United’s keenness to bring in Dan Ashworth as a new Director of Football.
The current Newcastle employee is now on gardening leave, as the Red Devils and the Magpies look to come together and work out some sort of compensation package for the Englishman’s services.
In the meantime, it has not taken long for the Red Devils to be linked with players who Ashworth is fond of; Marc Guehi.
It’s The Telegraph (subscription required), with the story. Without wanting to delve too deep behind their paywall, it’s claimed United could look to sign the 23-year-old defender – if Ashworth is appointed in time for the summer.
Ashworth is said to be a big fan of the Crystal Palace man, who he has been fond of during his time at Newcastle United. The Englishman could look to reignite interest in Guehi at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils themselves have been linked with Guehi also. The centre-back has been playing some brilliant stuff over the last couple of seasons and it’s easy to see why some top clubs are now starting to take note of his performances.
Guehi has earned England caps, nine in total over the last couple of seasons, while consistently looking like one of the best defenders in the Premier League at domestic level.
As a result, he will not come cheaply. Palace would obviously prefer to keep ahold of Guehi, though they may eventually have to cave in and allow him to leave – particularly if a bidding war ensues for his signature.
With Victor Lindelof potentially leaving this summer, Raphael Varane not getting any younger and Lisandro Martinez constantly injured, a new centre-back feels like an absolute must this summer. The Reds could certainly do worse than Guehi.
