Dan Ashworth makes Kobbie Mainoo contract extension a priority

A Kobbie Mainoo contract extension is Dan Ashworth’s number one priority since joining Man United.

Manchester United finally are acting like a big club again. The Old Trafford side have real football people in prominent roles, rather than ex-bankers and businessmen.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are not messing around – and it’s truly great to see United functioning like a giant European side. Signings are now imminent. A move to bring in Joshua Zirkzee could be completed as early as today, while a central defender will also be acquired at some point in the not too distant future.

Manchester United’s new Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, also has another ‘priority’ at this point – as he looks to extend the contract of young superstar, Kobbie Mainoo. That’s according to HITC.

These talks are nothing new. A few months ago, United were said to be locked in talks with Mainoo over a new deal, though his rise to stardom, culminating in a place in the England squad at the European Championship, meant those discussions were shelved.

Mainoo has gone on from strength to strength this summer, emerging as one of England’s undroppable stars during their run to the final. Ashworth is now keen to tie the midfielder down to new terms, as United look to protect the value of their prized asset.

It’s claimed that Mainoo himself was waiting to see what happened with Ten Hag’s future before signing on the dotted line, with the Stockport-born-teenager said to be delighted at the club’s decision to retain the Dutchman.

I honestly see no issue in regard to this new Mainoo deal. He’s a red through and through, while he’s loving life in Manchester right now. I fully expect new terms to be agreed on in the coming months.

Do you think Kobbie Mainoo is already among the world’s best midfielders? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
