After two seasons at Man United, Dan James is set to seal a move away from Old Trafford today.
Manchester United’s transfer window has been pretty excellent. Nobody would’ve ever dreamt that the three signings we made would be the world-class names that they are.
Sadly, it’s inevitable that some players must be moved on as a way of balancing the books. Thus far, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has failed to move on from any of his fringe players – until today…
Deadline day is here, with one major exit in the works; Dan James.
The Welshman, who has spent two years at the Theatre of Dreams, is set to head to our Premier League rival, Leeds United, on a permanent deal.
According to the usually excellent Fabrizio Romano, the deal has been ‘done and confirmed’, with the £45k-a-week star (Spotrac) having signed his paperwork.
The move will no doubt be confirmed today, with United looking like getting a pretty decent profit on someone who has dipped in and out of their starting line-up.
My thoughts on this transfer are this; James was still improving as a footballer, though the fit here at Old Trafford probably wasn’t right.
He needs space, he needs teams to come out and expose themselves. Sadly, opponents seldom do that against United, which is why he always looked better for Wales.
Unfortunately, Leeds United is perfect for him and James will no doubt go on to have a successful career under Marcelo Bielsa. Would I have preferred to see James move elsewhere? Absolutely, but I hope he does well.
This is a young man who always wore that badge with pride. He’ll always be remembered fondly for the effort and work ethic. It’s a shame it didn’t work out here, but James will always get a nice reception upon his return to the Theatre of Dreams – and he absolutely deserves it.
