Daniel James picked up a knock against Leicester City. Now, Manchester United are sweating on his fitness ahead of their game tonight.
After what has been a quiet start to the campaign, Daniel James would come alive against Leeds United, reminding us all of his presence.
He’d also get a start against Leicester City on Boxing Day, though he’d show those inconsistencies which we’ve seen ever since his arrival from Swansea City.
Now, it looks somewhat unlikely that James will feature against Wolverhampton Wanderers…
According to the Manchester Evening News, the United attacker picked up a knock against Leicester and he’ll be assessed ahead of our match against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side tonight.
At this stage, we’re unsure in regards to the severity of the problem. Heck, we don’t even know what the affected area is. However, the fact that it’s being described as a ‘knock’ suggests it’s nothing too long-term.
Solskjaer has carefully managed his squad so far during the winter period. I’d fully expect him to approach this latest injury issue with caution, too.
The only issue for United is that in terms of numbers, the attacking area is where we’re looking somewhat thin on the ground.
So where do United turn?
Outside of the regular faces like Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford, there’s not much else to go on.
It could present an opportunity for someone like Facundo Pellistri, who was training with the first-team over the weekend. Then there’s also Amad Diallo, who is set to arrive from Atalanta at some point in January. Whether or not these guys are ready for first-team football remains to be seen.
Hopefully, James is back fighting fit in the new year as he looks to prove his doubters wrong. Until then, we’ll have to knock on wood that our key forwards can stay fighting fit.
Get well soon, Dan!
