Manchester United’s squad have now jetted out to Australia as their pre-season tour begins. This coming Saturday, the Red Devils play their first tour game against Perth Glory.
Aboard the plane was regular faces like David de Gea, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba, while new signings Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also jetted out with the team. It looks like youth is also going to get an opportunity, with James Garner, Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes amongst the travelling party.
However, there were a few notable absentees. Dean Henderson was missing, and to me it looks as though he’s ready to sign for Sheffield United on another season-long loan.
Fred and Matteo Darmian weren’t with the squad, either. However, we now know why, courtesy of journalist Simon Peach…
He states that the pair will join up with the tour squad at a later date due to ‘family reasons’. Although that can be a broad explanation, nothing in the world should come before the ones you love.
Obviously, Darmian’s future has been up in the air for a few years so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s finally allowed to leave Old Trafford during this window. As for Fred, I still believe he does have a United future, although he needs a huge season to prove his worth to the fans and manager alike.
I just hope that the pair are given ample time to be with their family at this point, and they fly out when best suits them…
