David de Gea admits he considered Manchester United exit

David de Gea’s meteoric rise to fame continued at the weekend, as he put in yet another Man of the Match performance as Manchester United earned all three points at home to Roberto Martinez’s Everton side. De Gea went home with all the plaudits, but it could have been oh so different for the young goalkeeper.

De Gea himself has admitted that he considered leaving Manchester United after an extremely difficult first season, but eventually he decided to stay at Old Trafford, and keep working hard and remained positive.

When asked about whether he considered leaving, De Gea said: “Sometimes. It’s difficult when you get a lot of criticism like I did. But I kept strong and I always tried to remain positive.”

“Those early days were difficult for me and my family. But when you play for a big club like Manchester United (being criticised) is normal when you don’t play well.”

Its great to see the honesty from Dave. Its unusual for a player to come out and admit that he did consider walking away, but it shows that if you try to think positively and believe in yourself, you can turn it around.
