Manchester United have moved closer to securing David de Gea to a new long-term contract, according to the Daily Mail. The club confirmed the signing of backup goalkeeper Victor Valdes yesterday, and now United are confident of backing that up with a new lucrative deal for De Gea.
It is thought that De Gea’s agent, Jorge Mendes is keen to get this deal tied up as soon as possible, and that the United fans’ unrest is thought to have sped the process up somewhat.
The sooner our 24-year old shot-stopper is tied down to a new long-term contract the better. He is in outstanding form at the moment, and as Victor Valdes said yesterday, he is up there with the best in the world at this time.
We’d be stupid not to give him whatever he wants to stay at the club because keepers like him don’t come around very often. He’s special, and with the experience of Valdes teaching him in training everyday, he is only going to get better.
