David de Gea in talks over a new Manchester United contract

Manchester United are in talks with young goalkeeper David de Gea, over a new contract worth around £18million. After having an excellent season which resulted in being named Manchester United Fans Player, and Players Player of the Year, the club want to tie him down to a new deal.

The new deal would take David de Gea from his £52,000-a-week contract up to £85,000-a-week, extending the deal until 2018 from the deal which he is currently on which expires in 2016.

David de Gea has been named in the Spanish squad for the first time in his relatively short career, and he has all the makings of becoming Spain’s long-term number one in the not too distant future.

The only concern is that he could be tempted if one of Barcelona or Real Madrid come knocking for his signature. De Gea would probably want to move back to his hometown at some point in his career, hence why tying him down to a new deal as soon as possible is crucial.

The keeper has worked with two different goalkeeping coaches in Chris Woods and Eric Steele at United, and he looks set to be working with a different one next season, with Louis van Gaal looking to bring in Frans Hoek.
