David de Gea ‘in the dark’ about his Man United future: report

David de Gea is uncertain about his future at Manchester United.

The 2020/21 season was a pretty weird one for Manchester United goalkeepers. Sergio Romero was completely frozen out, while David de Gea and Dean Henderson would be locked in a year-long battle for the number one jersey.

The winner of that scrap is still unclear, though De Gea did start the Europa League final, which could be an indicator as to who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the most trust in.

Well, a few days ago, ESPN ran a story, claiming that United star De Gea is still ‘in the dark’ about his future at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old still has two years, with the option for a third, on his £375k-a-week contract and he understandably remains keen on playing at the highest level.

Apparently, the Spaniard is yet to be informed by Solskjaer about United’s plans for their shot-stoppers next season. However, he would seek a move away if Henderson is installed as the Reds’ number one.

De Gea is set to seek talks with Solskjaer about the situation, presumably as he doesn’t want to be left scrambling to find a new club after he returns from the European Championships.

Either way, it looks like neither De Gea or Henderson are intent on playing second fiddle – meaning it’s highly likely United will lose one of them this summer.

My personal view is that Henderson is the man to take us forward and he’ll only improve if given that real show of faith by the manager.

Even if Solskjaer is leaning towards De Gea, the gaffer has to make the decision sooner rather than later. It’s unfair to leave the future of both of these guys completely up in the air over the summer and the sooner our Baby Faced Assassin makes a decision, the better it’ll be for all involved.
