Manchester United have just one player in the latest BBC Team of the Week this time around. That man? David de Gea, after a good performance vs West Brom.
It wasn’t too long ago when the doubts around David de Gea were starting to grow. The superstar Spaniard would make some huge mistakes at the back end of last term, with supporters starting to question whether he is still good enough.
With Dean Henderson waiting in the wings, those questions felt more than fair. Now that the Englishman is back at Old Trafford, though, De Gea seems to have been given more motivation to perform and succeed.
This term, the Spaniard has been flawless. Complete control of his penalty area, high-level shot-stopping and all-round quality. It feels like De Gea is back to his brilliant best – and long may that continue.
Let’s face it, our current forward line isn’t firing on all cylinders right now, so it’s up to the defence and goalie to keep as many clean sheets as possible. This weekend against West Brom, a slender 1-0 win was achieved – though mostly thanks to De Gea and his defence.
For his performance, De Gea was the sole United star named in the latest Garth Crooks BBC Team of the Week.

Alright, so it was hardly vintage De Gea, however, he made some solid saves when his team needed him the most. If he makes even one small mistake, we’re dropping points and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job is coming into question right now.
Fair play to David for turning it around. Hopefully, this is the start of another world-class season from one of the best goalkeepers on the planet.
