David de Gea will not play against Aston Villa

Manchester United have been dealt a minor blow ahead of their trip to Aston Villa tomorrow, as the manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that David de Gea will not feature in the game, meaning Sergio Romero is almost certain to retain his place in the side.

Its clear that De Gea’s frame of mind still isn’t right as the links to Real Madrid constantly continue, and I’d now be surprised if we see him involved before the close of the transfer window in early September.

“No, it’s the same situation,” said Van Gaal when asked about whether David de Gea will play.

To be fair to Romero, his shot-stopping was very good and he held onto the ball well. One area where he could improve was in his distribution and kicking, but if David de Gea’s not in the right frame of mind, then Sergio Romero is an apt replacement.
