Manchester United Football Club somehow managed to keep hold of David de Gea over the summer, despite huge interest from Real Madrid. Since then the Spaniard has signed a new deal at Old Trafford, but according to AS, his new contract has a rather low release clause…
The Spanish media outlet say that the goalkeeper could be available for as little as £39million – but only if a bid comes in before June 15 when the European Championships get underway.
Manchester United certainly would have been hoping for much more for one of the best goalkeepers on the planet, but at the end of the day, the ball would have been firmly in De Gea’s court when contract negotiations were ongoing.
We’re just fortunate to have him tied down to a new multi-year contract, and now its up to other clubs to act quickly to secure his services within the few weeks after the season is wrapped up. Hopefully no offer comes in – particularly from Real Madrid, who must be impressed by the form of Keylor Navas.
