David de Gea’s move to Real Madrid DID NOT go through in time

As things stand, David de Gea will remain a Manchester United player this season due to the paperwork not being completed in time. The news comes from reliable sources including Sky Sports News and the BBC, who claim that the move is now off.

Yesterday lunchtime it looked for all the world that David de Gea would be the latest in a long line of players to switch Old Trafford for the Bernabeu, with Keylor Navas coming the other way. However the required documents were supposed to be completed by 23:00 GMT, when in fact they were all processed by closer to 23:30 according to reports.

In a strange event exactly what happens now with David de Gea remains a mystery. United could play him for the season and then lose him on a free next summer, or they could play hardball, freeze him out and refuse to utilise the 25-year old unless he signs a new contract.

At the end of the day we’re negotiating with Real Madrid so I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Fiorentino Perez finds some loophole to get the deal to go through despite the confusion over the paperwork last night. But at this moment in time, David de Gea is still a Manchester United player.
