Manchester United restored David de Gea to the starting line-up for the first time this season yesterday, with Louis van Gaal’s side winning 3-1 rather comfortably. The day before the game the club broke the news that our Spaniard had penned a new deal at Old Trafford, signing a four-year deal.
The rumours began about whether that new contract contained a buyout clause or not, and according to The Sun, that clause does exist – meaning a club can buy the player for around £30million.
That fee does seem extremely low, given we were getting around £25million for him on transfer deadline day as he had twelve months left on his contract.
However if David de Gea and his agent Jorge Mendes have played this properly, there is no doubting that his deal will contain some form of release clause.
I don’t think Manchester United fans would begrudge De Gea moving to the Bernabeu next summer now though, as the club are guaranteed to get some form of respectable fee for the 25-year old.
