Manchester United’s David de Gea played an absolute blinder last time out – making eleven saves against Tottenham Hotspur, ensuring his side won the game.
However, long term doubts about his Old Trafford future remain. The superstar Spaniard is yet to commit to a new long-term deal, with the club recently activating a one-year extension clause that exists in his contract.
Now, there has been some mixed news given by the Daily Mail. The good? De Gea wants to stay at United, however, he’s demanding a £100,000-a-week pay increase.
De Gea currently earns £200,000-a-week, but he wants £300,000-a-week. For me, he’s more than worth that amount of money, but you just never know what this board will deem best.
If they have any sense about them, they’d give into his every demand and make him sign a new five-year contract, but right now, the fact that they activated his one-year contract clause tells me both parties are still some way from reaching an agreement.
He’s the best in the world. Give him what he wants, sign him up and make the United fans happy. It gives us one less problem to worry about and a real base to build from.
