Dean Henderson is back in Man United training, with the goalkeeper feeling in good spirits once again.
Manchester United Football Club have been consistently excellent when it comes to goalkeepers. From David de Gea, to Sergio Romero, it’s probably been our strongest area over the last decade.
Last term saw the berth of a brewing battle between the aforementioned De Gea and Dean Henderson for the starting job. It’d be the former who’d start in the Europa League final, with that head-to-head expected to run and run during 2021/22.
With De Gea with Spain for the European Championships over the summer, it was Henderson’s time to shine – or so he thought. He’d be struck down with Covid-19, which has been having an effect on the Englishman for at least a couple of months.
Henderson would feel fatigued for quite some time, unavailable to train and put in the work. However, United have been boosted with the star back in training. He’d take to Twitter to admit it ‘feels good to be back’.

So we’re under no illusion that Henderson is going to be back challenging for starts any time soon. After all, he’s had no pre-season whatsoever, meaning he’s at least a few weeks behind the majority of that dressing room.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will no doubt adopt the cautious approach here, giving Henderson all the time to get up to speed at his own pace.
Let’s not forget that this guy is still young with the footballing world at his feet. If it takes a month or so for Henderson to get himself match fit then so be it, I’d still expect him to be pushing De Gea super hard for that starting job before the turn of the year.
