Dean Henderson has seemingly given the green light on a move to Nottingham Forest.
There’s no doubt that this Manchester United squad will look very different come the opening day of the 2022/23 season.
Major work is needed, though one area where United are well-stocked is in between the sticks. David de Gea has regained firm control of the number one jersey, despite Dean Henderson being a top-class goalie in his own right.
Yesterday, there were stories claiming that Nottingham Forest had opened talks to sign Henderson on a loan deal with an option to buy.
Well, those discussions must have gone rather well, as the Daily Mail are claiming that Forest have agreed personal terms with Henderson ahead of a possible move.
The United star is set to leave the club on loan, with Forest having the option to buy Henderson for £20m.
Newly-promoted Forest have acted quickly after learning that their number one from last season, Brice Samba, wishes to leave the club this summer. In Henderson, the side managed by Steve Cooper are getting a top-class goalkeeper.
I’m genuinely pretty gutted that this is the path United have chosen for Henderson. I do get it though, as moving on from De Gea would be a bold call given he won our Player of the Year award last season.
My mind has been focused on the long-term. How long does De Gea have left? Nobody knows. However, Henderson could have given us at least ten years’ worth of service. I also think the Englishman is better suited to Ten Hag’s style of play.
As is always the case with these loan deals with options to buy, there’s no guarantee that Forest will activate that clause. That does seem like an extremely reasonable fee for a player who could get into most starting line-ups in the Premier League, though.

Great move for Henderson and Notts Forest, wrong move for United.
