David de Gea’s future is still up in the air, while who knows what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has planned in the goalkeeping department for the 2019/20 campaign.
Manchester United would obviously love to keep ahold of their superstar Spaniard – although with one year left on his deal and no sign of a new contract being agreed to, the Red Devils’ hand may well be forced.
However, it does look like we’ll know where one goalkeeper will be playing his football next season… According to the Sheffield Star, sources close to the negotiation believe Dean Henderson is ‘edging towards’ another loan spell with Sheffield United.
Although there is work still to be done to push the deal over the line, it looks as though the 22-year-old will be playing his football for United (no, not that one) in the Premier league over the next twelve months.
The article states that the Reds have no intention of allowing Henderson to leave permanently, although the club will allow Henderson to spend his third season in a row out on loan. His first two spells with Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United have worked wonders for his career. Solskjaer will be hoping that trend continues.
I genuinely believe we’re looking at Manchester United’s next number one goalkeeper. Henderson is immensely talented, has shown a real willingness to learn and develop and overall, the 22-year-old has all the right attributes to play at the highest level.
If he does go to Sheffield, it’ll be his first test of Premier League football, in what could be a crucial year for his overall ambitions and aspirations.
