Dean Henderson will soon be announced as a Nottingham Forest player for the 2022/23 season.
Manchester United Football Club will look rather different in 2022/23. The signs coming from the training ground all seem positive, with Erik ten Hag already putting his players through their paces.
Squad-wise, wholesale changes are already being made. Several lads will leave on free transfers. Others will be sold. More will be loaned out.
Amongst those who fall into that last bracket is Dean Henderson. Despite us here at Old Trafford Faithful believing the Englishman is ready for first-team football at the Theatre of Dreams, the club seem to think otherwise.
A loan deal to Nottingham Forest has been talked up a fair bit over the last few weeks.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has given us an update on when that transfer is set to become official. Apparently, that transfer is to be announced by United in the ‘next days’, with no issues expected.
Ten Hag has approved the deal, with Henderson to ply his trade for newly-promoted Nottingham Forest over the next twelve months. Thankfully (for us anyway), there is no option to buy outright.
Henderson is at that stage in his career where he just wants to play football with regularity. It really is that simple. Nottingham Forest will give him that opportunity.
The question is, how long will Hendo accept being number two at United? Age 25, I fully expect this is the last time he’ll settle for a short-term move away from Manchester. If no first-team guarantees are made in twelve months’ time, I genuinely believe he’ll want to exit United permanently.
In terms of overall fit, Henderson looks ideal for the Ten Hag possession-based system. He’s far more comfortable with the ball at feet over David de Gea, for example.
For now, I guess all he can do is prove his worth at Forest.
