Dean Henderson number one? It’s something we’ve been calling for here at Old Trafford Faithful. Well, he may be about to get his chance.

Yesterday, the Manchester Evening News discovered that Henderson had been added to the first-team squad at Manchester United. That certainly got us thinking…

Now, Sky Sports News have offered us the latest update on Henderson. Again, it points to the Englishman being at Old Trafford next term.

Apparently, the 23-year-old has ‘made it clear’ he wants to commit his long-term future to United. On top of that, he’s ready to challenge David de Gea for regular starts and the number one jersey next term.

If United don’t have first-team plans for Henderson, a ‘host of clubs’ are keen to agree upon a loan deal for the budding shot-stopper next term.

Hendo time?

Aaron Ramsdale’s proposed move is seemingly the biggest indicator that Henderson is on his way back home. I just hope that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives him a fair chance.

It’s easy for me to say sat behind a keyboard, but I feel Henderson is ready. If you don’t give him an opportunity soon, there’s a good chance he’ll leave on a permanent transfer. With Chelsea circling, I’d much prefer to give Henderson his shot.

Don’t get me wrong, I love De Gea. However, too many mistakes have been made and I’d rather move away from the Spaniard a year early rather than a year late and risk letting Henderson go to a direct rival.

It’s also worth pointing out that who knows how Henderson will perform in the pressure-cooker that is playing for the biggest club in the country… I’d back him to deal with it confidently because that’s just the nature of the man. Again, that’s easy for me to say, it’s Solskjaer who has the tough choice to make…

In an ideal world, Henderson will play in the cup and Champions League games next season, with a view to naming him the starter in 2021/22. I’m just not sure he’s prepared to wait until then.
