Dean Henderson prepared to leave Man United: report

Dean Henderson is now ready to depart from Man United and move elsewhere.

I’ve said it time and time again. Manchester United have had problems all over the field for the last decade – except at goalkeeper.

It’s an area of the pitch United have got it absolutely right. It started with David de Gea, with a little bit of Sergio Romero and Dean Henderson sprinkled in.

The superstar Spaniard was locked deep in battle with Henderson last season, with both looking like the firm number one at different parts of the campaign.

2020/21 ended with De Gea as the undisputed number one, though Henderson was going to get his chance over the summer – until Covid-19 and injury ruined those plans for the shot-stopper.

Now, having played just two games this term, the 24-year-old United star is now ‘prepared to leave’ United – possibly as early as January. The story comes from Fabrizio Romano.

To add to that, it’s claimed that Henderson’s ‘priority is to play’, though any move is now dependent on the offers that come in for the Englishman.

As Romano says, Henderson has handled this situation like the consummate professional he is. His attitude cannot be faulted and long may that continue.

However, he’s at that point in his career where he deserves to be a number one choice somewhere. At a top club, too.

I don’t doubt that if his availability is made public knowledge, Henderson will not be short of offers from all over Europe. United themselves wouldn’t be too disappointed as De Gea still has plenty of life left in the tank – while they’ll scoop a very reasonable transfer fee to let Hendo go.

Although it would be absolutely gutting to see him leave, I get it. We’re Hendo’s biggest fans here at OTF and I genuinely hoped he’d be given an opportunity. Sadly, De Gea’s just in surreal form and we cannot even consider dropping him at this moment in time.
