Dean Henderson set to play full part in pre-season after overcoming injury: report

Dean Henderson is seemingly fit and raring to go following an injury that cut his EURO 2020 short.

At Manchester United, there’s a real goalkeeping battle brewing. David de Gea has been arguably the best in the business over the last half-decade. However, the emergence of Dean Henderson has really given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a tough decision to make.

Both Hendo and De Gea went through a real back and forth during the 2020/21 campaign in regards to the starting jersey, with the Spaniard eventually doing enough to start the Europa League final.

Now, in an article based around United’s goalkeeping situation, ESPN’s Rob Dawson offers us several updates. Perhaps the most important is Henderson’s injury situation.

The Englishman had to be pulled from Gareth Southgate’s EURO 2020 squad due to a hip issue. However, United have been given a boost, as the key 24-year-old is set to play a full part in pre-season following that problem.

That’s great news for Hendo, who’ll be looking to make a positive impact before the serious action kicks off next month.

As for De Gea, he’s ready to fight for his place in between the sticks at United – though his participation at the European Championships means he’ll be returning to training late. That could well give Hendo a chance to cement himself as the first-choice before the Spaniard arrives back in Manchester.

Obviously, United signed Tom Heaton this summer while Lee Grant is still at the club. That’s a seriously stacked goalkeeping room and I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised to see someone move on this summer – or kick up a fuss when they’re not playing as the 2021/22 season kicks off.
