What a week it has been for Dean Henderson, who has signed a new Manchester United contract following his first England call-up.
Yep, that’s right, Henderson has committed his long-term future to the Old Trafford club, after spending the last few years out on loan.
United confirmed the news via their official website yesterday, with Henderson signing a deal until 2025, with the option for a further year. In effect, the shot-stopper will spend at least the next six years with Manchester United. All being well, of course…
Anyway, shortly after signing the deal, Henderson took to Twitter to send a message to the fans. He’d include several photos of himself, all-smiles, while reciting a famous United chant. This guy is born to be a Manchester United regular, right?
So what now for Henderson?
Well, now that he’s signed his new deal, after arriving back in Manchester last week, the Englishman can solely focus on his football.
The goal is taking that number one jersey from David de Gea, though that’s not going to be easy. I just don’t see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacing the Spaniard so quickly, meaning Henderson will have to earn it.
I’d suspect we’ll see Sergio Romero moved on and Henderson given the minutes in the cup competitions and maybe the Champions League. If Hendo plays well, there’s every chance he’ll be the starting keeper in a year’s time.
I’m just glad that he’s choosing to stick it out at United and prove his worth. He’s a confident young man who believes in his own ability. Now, it’s time to show that to the world.
He just looks ready to play for United, and I can’t wait to see how he gets on next term.
Congratulations, Deano!
