Dean Henderson to consider January loan move due to lack of playing time: report

Dean Henderson could well look to leave Old Trafford in January, on a short-term deal…

Manchester United Football Club have had their issues over the last decade or so, that goes without saying. Managers, players, style of play, the lot.

However, one area that has remained relatively consistent is the goalkeeper position. We’ve gone from David de Gea, who was once the best in the business, to Sergio Romero and Dean Henderson. All are top quality within their own right.

Even with Romero gone, there’s simply not enough minutes to go around. That leaves Henderson in a tough predicament. Obviously he wants that number one jersey at Old Trafford – though De Gea being back to his best makes that extra-hard for the Englishman.

Now, according to The Times, the 27-appearance United star is to consider a January loan exit if that lack of playing time continues.

At the end of the day, Hendo just wants to play and showcase his insane ability. That’s not happening right now for one reason or another.

Henderson wasn’t helped by his tough start to the campaign from a health standpoint. He’d suffer an injury over the summer, then, upon return to United, he’d contract a serious bout of Covid-19 which would leave him on the sidelines for the best part of a couple of months.

What was supposed to be his chance at a first-team breakthrough turned out to be De Gea’s big opportunity. The Spaniard hasn’t looked back since.

I still maintain the belief that Henderson will have a massive part to play for United over the years. He’s under contract so that’s good, but for right now, a loan move wouldn’t be the worst idea. Tom Heaton is a more than capable back-up to stick with in the meantime.
