Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest looking likely

Fabrizio Romano believes a Dean Henderson move to Nottingham Forest looks increasingly likely to happen.

Over the last 24 hours, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Nottingham Forest had opened talks with Manchester United over the possibility of signing Dean Henderson.

The Englishman has barely played any football over the last twelve months, with David de Gea firming up the number one jersey with some excellent performances.

Well, Henderson’s potential exit seems to be closer than we all thought. Earlier today, Romano followed up yesterday’s tweet on Henderson with some more important news.

Apparently, the United star has ‘very good chances’ to leave United this summer, with sources ‘really confident’ that a deal can be reached.

As things stand, it’s looking like a loan deal with an option to buy for £20m, with talks continuing.

Recently-promoted Forest are looking to replace Brice samba as their starting goalkeeper, with Henderson a brilliant option for any side looking to improve. There’s no doubt Forest would be getting a top-tier shot-stopper if this deal were to happen.

From a United standpoint, this is an intriguing saga. Obviously, Henderson is more than capable of replacing De Gea as the number one at some point. However, the Englishman simply shouldn’t be made to wait any longer as he’s ready to play high-level first-team football right now.

I guess it’s down to United hedging their bets on how long they believe De Gea can play at the level he’s currently performing at.

In terms of Henderson’s fit, I actually believe he suits Ten Hag’s system more than the Spaniard. The Englishman looks far more comfortable with the ball at his feet and that’s something that has to be factored into any potential move.

United have a decision to make. And one they have to make this summer as Henderson’s value is only going to decrease season-after-season.

Honestly, I’d be underwhelmed if United only received £20m back for the Englishman, and even that’s by no means a guarantee as Forest would be under no obligation to actually buy Hendo outright.
