Dean Henderson keen to secure January loan move away from Man United: report

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is after a January loan move away from Old Trafford.

For all their faults over the last half-decade, Manchester United have shown a real eye for developing goalkeepers. For a time, David de Gea was the best in the business, while Sergio Romero is probably still the best back-up in world football.

Then you have Dean Henderson, who was simply outstanding for Sheffield United last season. Here at Old Trafford Faithful, we’ve been keen for the Englishman to be handed the number one jersey and made the starter at United for about six months. Obviously, that hasn’t happened.

Although we’re pleased to see him stay with the club, getting minutes under his belt was always going to be an issue. Now, as we approach the winter window, Henderson has a decision to make.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the United first-teamer is looking to secure a January loan, having only started three games this term; none of which have come in the Premier League.

According to the report, Henderson would ‘jump at the chance’ of first-team football, particularly with EURO 2021 just around the corner.

Apparently, Championship club Bournemouth would be keen on signing Henderson on loan, though understandably, the 23-year-old would prefer a Premier League switch. This isn’t the first time a short-term move away has been talked up either…

Henderson’s big decision…

It’s a tough one. While Romero is still at the club, United can afford to send Henderson out on another short-term deal. However, the Englishman isn’t going to want to continually be farmed out to other clubs. There’s only so much of that he’ll take before wanting to leave permanently.

For me, Henderson is already England’s best goalie. Gareth Southgate has stood firm in his mantra that players will not be picked unless they’re playing regularly for their club, which is why the 23-year-old hasn’t been given that chance for the Three Lions.

I’ll be surprised if a Premier League club doesn’t swoop to sign Henderson in January because he’s just that good. United have to play this one very carefully, though…
