Dean Henderson is seeking a short-term exit away from Man United.
Manchester United’s goalkeeping room has always be amongst the strongest at the club. From David de Gea, to Sergio Romero. Add in some Tom Heaton and Dean Henderson and this side has been stacked with talent in that area over the last decade.
Last term was undoubtedly the hardest De Gea has been pushed for the starting role. Henderson’s emergence led to a back and forth battle between the two, with the Spaniard eventually winning out.
This season, more of the same was expected. However, Henderson would suffer injury over the summer, meaning he’d miss out on pre-season. A bout of Covid-19 would follow for the Englishman, who is still yet to make a first-team appearance this term.
As a direct result of that, the 24-year-old United star wants a January loan exit, according to The Sun.
That’s because Henderson’s first-team dream ‘fell flat’ after failing to establish himself as the out-and-out number one.
It’s stated by The Sun that Hendo was in line to be given the starting job this summer, but the aforementioned problems over the summer squashed any chance of that happening. Now, he’s looking to get back on track by playing regularly elsewhere.
Henderson’s stance has always remained the same – he just wants to play football, be it at United or elsewhere. I’ve always believed he’s more than good enough to start with regularity for us, though he definitely needs a confidence-booster after being absent for so long.
So far, he’s featured in a couple of U23s games, but he’s obviously far too talented for that. A loan move to a mid-tier Premier League side would be ideal, with a view to Henderson coming back next summer and taking command of that number one jersey here at Old Trafford.
