Declan Rice may well be keen on making a move to Man United…
Manchester United Football Club are undoubtedly preparing for a big summer transfer window.
Whoever the new permanent manager is, large sums of money will have to be spent in order to turn this squad back into one capable of winning titles.
There’s no doubt that central midfield is still an area that needs addressing in a major way. James Garner, who dropped another impressive performance yesterday, could well be the future of that position. However, further work is needed in the form of a big-name signing – particularly if Paul Pogba leaves.
Enter, Declan Rice.
In an article predominantly about Garner joining United’s midfield next season, the Manchester Evening News offer us a snippet of information in regards to the Reds’ potential move for Rice.
Apparently, the 23-year-old star has ‘expressed an interest’ in joining Man United. However, his current club, West Ham, may well price the Englishman out of a move this summer due to his long-term contract. They’re hoping to keep ahold of him for at least another year.
On top of that, it’s also stated by the MEN that the Reds are looking to add ‘at least one’ midfielder this summer, as the club decision-makers accept that it’s the ‘biggest problem’ within the United squad.
There’s no doubt that Rice would be an upgrade on what we currently have. However, he’s going to cost a pretty penny. Possibly over £100million. Is the Englishman really worth that sum?
For me, I’d much prefer to see us go after someone who could cost half that amount, leaving money left over to invest in other areas of the squad. That’s not to say Rice isn’t an excellent footballer. I just think we need to work on adding top-class players in multiple positions in one window.
