Manchester United’s transfer window has certainly been a selling one, as Jose Mourinho seemingly looks to trim down his squad for the second half of the season. Now, it looks as though another big name could be on the way out in the not too distant future.
The report comes from The Sun, who say that the versatile Italian defender Matteo Darmian is growing in frustrations about a real lack of minutes on the field – and he’s even begun searching for a new house back in Italy…
They add that Inter Milan are close to agreeing a deal that’ll see the 27-year-old leave the Theatre of Dreams behind, and in all honesty, this is a move that makes complete sense.
Despite only signing for the club just over eighteen months ago, Darmian’s Old Trafford career has rapidly gone downhill. He did start life here excellently, and many thought he’d be that brilliant right-back the club had been lacking since letting Gary Neville go – however those comparisons diminished quickly…
Now United’s main right-back is Antonio Valencia, who is playing wonderfully right now. Darmian’s chances have largely come at left-back which obviously isn’t ideal for a right-footer – and in my opinion, he hasn’t been good whatsoever. Hopefully, this deal will be pushed through in the summer, and Jose can find another player who is happy with more of a squad rotational role.
