Defensive duo set to return for Man Utd against Palace

Manchester United today found out that they will be without the services of Michael Carrick for the rest of the season, but there has been some positive news alongside that too, with Louis van Gaal set to recall this defensive duo.

Both Phil Jones and Luke Shaw are set for a return to first-team football, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. United have leaked goals over the last few games, with Paddy McNair’s inexperience certainly showing – particularly against Everton.

Luke Shaw returning means that Daley Blind can shift back into the midfield, which in turn will allow Wayne Rooney to return up front and play as the lone striker.

Phil Jones on the other hand gives us a more experienced back line, with Paddy McNair being taken out of the side and allowing the two English centre-backs to link up at the heart of the defence.

Manchester United still need four points to secure a spot in the Champions League for next season, and three tomorrow would go a long way towards helping the cause.

Should both of these players start? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
